NIA is an abbreviation for Neuro-muscular Integrative Action. NIA-technique is a mind/body focused dance work-out in which movement from sensory awareness is central.
“The truest expression of people is in its dance and its music. Bodies never lie.”
Agnes de Mille
Music, Movement, Magic
In NIA, free dance, conscious movement, and dance condition interweave on a swinging mix of musical styles. Moments of expressive Free dance alternate with simple steps and movements that are constructed in such a way that they train the nervous system, cardiovascular system as well as strength, flexibility, and movement-creativity.
NIA is a playful 60-minute work-out in which fun and yummy dancing are paramount. It helps you relax your mind and makes you come home to your body, to yourself.
The NIA technique interweaves and brings together in a very beautiful and intelligent way the vision and concepts of 9 movement forms that are known for their playing, healing, sensory-awareness and powerful, condition building effects both physically as mentally.
The 9 forms are Jazz dance, Modern dance and Duncan dance, Aikido, Taekwondo, and Tai chi, Feldenkrais sensory-based movement education, Alexander technique, and Yoga. To make the classes safe, accessible and joyful for a broad audience, participants are encouraged to choose their own level of intensity in movement and conditioning.
Love your body, love your life…
The emphasis is on moving the body’s way: Movement with ease, attention, caring, KI-force and all senses open. Feeling for and listening to the boundaries your body sets for you. Moving from the connection between body, mind, heart, and soul. Savoring every cell in your body. Every movement a dance…
“Everyone is welcome in an NIA class: man, woman, old, young, with or without experience or condition!
Each lesson consists of a warming up, sustained low impact cardio, strength training, stretching and a cool down. The movements are danced to a mix of diverse music ranging from world music, House, Jazz, Pop, Hip Hop, Indie, Latin, New Age, and classical music.
Regularly taking an NIA lesson will help you to build up a good condition. It not only makes you more conscious, stronger, more flexible and happier in your body, but also in your heart and your brain. In short, superfood for body, mind, and soul!”
